Summary on Grant Application Form |
This research is based on observations that existing technology (or near to market technology) is capable of delivering high levels of improvement in resource efficiency. Industry is not taking up this technology to the extent that is needed (based on sustainability goals) nor to the extent that appears to be selfishly reasonable to the technology providers (selfish meaning it reduces material or energy costs). This research sets out to understand the extent of and reasons for this problem, and whether there are any specific approaches that may be taken to improve the situation such that the industries benefit from greater resource productivity and the planet benefits from reduced environmental impact. Specifically, the UK Eastern region hosts the Centre for Sustainable Engineering (CSE), with a remit to improve regional sustainability performance through better engineering and technology transfer. The CSE offers excellent access for the researchers to observe and to design intervention programmes that will reveal factors concerning the more resource-efficient technology (RET) adoption process.
