Summary on Grant Application Form
The main activity of the network over its first two years will be the organisation and delivery of six workshops, with associated dissemination activity. The outputs of the workshops will be a series of reports on states-of-the-art, research needs and opportunities in the areas of the workshops, culminating in a manifesto for the future direction of Affective Communication research. The workshops' topics will be:- first workshop: community introductions, with a report on members' current activities and interests. The following four workshops will explore:- models of communication and creativity- models of human-production interaction- tools and methods for communication and creativity- tools and methods for affective evaluationeach with state-of-the-art reports as described above- The final workshop will be one of synthesis. Each workshop will cross all the disciplines of the network. it will be an ambition to create coherent mappings of each discipline's viewpoint onto each workshop-specific landscape. The adventure and excitement of the network will lie in determining common ground and identifying the fault lines or conflicts between these different points of view. At the present time it is only possible for the investigators to put forward their viewpoints in terms of their current positions. The success of the network may be judged by how much these views become altered and integrated over the twenty-four month period and to what extent the needs are answered or become more clearly articulated as research needs.
