Summary on Grant Application Form |
The IESSG at The University of Nottingham and the Surrey Space Centre are currently working on a range of research contracts related to satellite positioning, imaging and sensor integration. In 2003, the IESSG was awarded a PPA award for a project titled Satellite Positioning - A Public Awareness Activity (GR/S24008/01).The aim of this proposal is to provide an extension to our existing PPA award, broaden the involvement of relevant academic, industrial and institutional partners, and continue to raise public awareness of satellite positioning in general, but also specifically inform the public about Europe's GPS-System , Galileo. We intend to stimulate the public's interest in our research and inspire future generations of researchers by exploring questions such as What is Galileo? , What is the Science behind this exciting new development? , How are UK academic and industrial groups leading the world in the development of the new system? , How will it benefit me? A number of activities will be developed with our project partners to improve and complement the existing communication strategies and displays at the National Space Centre. These will include informative 'Poster' presentations, interactive multimedia displays, static displays of relevant equipment and hardware, occasional dynamic equipment displays including hands-on demonstrations and Question & Answer sessions, public lecture(s)and the preparation of A Bluffer's Guide To ... Galileo.
