Summary on Grant Application Form |
A series of Japan-UK Seismic Risk Fora took place in 1996, 1998, 2000 and 2002 alternately at Imperial College and Tokyo Institute of Technology The decision was taken at the last forum in Japan to broaden the scope of the meeting to include more general European participation. It was agree that the first Japan-Europe Seismic Risk workshop should take place in Bristol in July 2004. The workshop will bring together some 40 researchers i many aspects of earthquake engineering from Japan, Europe and the United Kingdom within an informal environment permitting presentations an exchange of current research ideas and developments. The workshop will be advertised to engineers in industry and thus will provide an opportunity fc dissemination of research and identification of potential applications. The timing is appropriate: the BLADE construction work should finish at the beginning of April 2004 and the new laboratories will be occupied in th months thereafter. The 6-axis Bristol shaking table has been refurbished and awaits installation in the new laboratory with new actuators and wit' greatly expanded testing space and headroom. It is likely that by that time experimental work may be in progress on seismic response of mode foundations incorporating novel mitigation measures in the NEMISREF project. The workshop will provide an opportunity to present the new JIF funded, facilities to an international audience.
