Summary on Grant Application Form |
A consortium of academics and industrialists is to be built to generate new science and technology in the field of photonic materials and devices for the rapid and sensitive screening of large numbers of different molecules. Seminars, visits and feasibility studies will explore the potential for application of porous optical membranes to detect hundreds of different molecules as they pass through the pores. One aim will be to use optical signatures to identify molecules and particles in the pores and evaluate their dynamics. Collaborators will be sought in the fields of polymer/silicon membranes, colloidal chemistry, and the physics of transport through membrane structures, in particular.
