Summary on Grant Application Form |
This is a proposal for investment in equipment to benefit researchers in at least 28 UCL centres and departments across five faculties. It will support UCL's strategic goals of realising the impact of excellent cross-disciplinary research and providing its researchers with cutting-edge equipment to enable them to compete with the world's best. All requested items fulfil the "underpinning multi-user equipment" objective of the call. Other objectives fulfilled by the requested items are "invest to save" and "core equipment in support of Early Career Researchers".
Governance of the Core Equipment funding is provided by grant holder Professor David Price, UCL Vice-Provost (Research), and Deans of the three Faculties of Built Environment, Engineering Sciences, and Mathematical & Physical Sciences. The academic Leads for each requested item will be responsible for regular reporting to the Office of the Vice-Provost (Research) on progress against objectives.
The requested UCL equipment items are: (A) an X-ray detection and image processing system; (B) a research computing upgrade for virtual machine and compute services; (C) an inert atmosphere system for assembling heterostructures and devices; (D) equipment for UCL's Department of Chemistry NMR laboratory; and (E) metrology in the loop collaborative robotics.
