Summary on Grant Application Form
Dimensional instability in fabrics can cause variety of problems for the finisher, garment maker, and wearer. Years of research into this instability of textile fabrics has shown that it is a complex interaction of fibre, yarn and fabric construction parameters. The understanding of this instability is becoming more critical with the development of CAD/CAM in garment manufacture, pressure decatizing and also by the market's demand for lighter weight fabrics (where the problem is greatest). The objective of this research is to clarify the contribution made by yarn twist to the overall instability problem, and to the tailorability of the fabric.
