Summary on Grant Application Form |
The thrust of this proposal is to establish a sound basis for technology demonstration of gas sensitive resistors based upon new materials. The proposal is distinguished from others in the area in the following ways: (1) by its emphasis on the use of recently discovered gas sensitive materials (2) through the consequent emphasis on effects of systematic variations of material composition; (3) through an emphasis on the ceramic fabrication problems peculiar to practical gas sensitive resistors and particularly in relation to the use of new materials, not previously much studied for this purpose; (4) through an emphasis on the influence of microstructure and its evolution in use, and the way in which such changes are influenced by the composition of the material; (5) through an emphasis on the importance of surface chemistry as a determinant of gas response and selectivity.
