Summary on Grant Application Form
This application for support is to enable us to continue our integrated programme of work on the synthesis, characterisation and device fabrication of conducting Langmuir Blodgett (LB) films. With the experience gained in our current programme, we are uniquely placed to synthesise new charge-transfer systems that will form LB films that may exhibit higher conductivities, and be more suitable for device fabrication, than those studied hitherto. Our targets are a range of highly functionalised, amphiphilic tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) derivatives which offer unprecedented scope for probing structure/property relationships in conducting LB assemblies. Notably we aim to produce the first chiral, conducting LB films, where selective recognition of one enantiomer of a dopant anion is a primary goal. We will also extend our recent studies on LB films of fullerenes.
