Summary on Grant Application Form |
The proposed work aims to substantially improve the analysis and testing procedures currently used for flight flutter testing. Each stage of the test procedure will be advanced using a number of novel approaches: Investigation of the optimum form of excitation using vanes/control surfaces/stick jerks. Possible application of multiple inputs will be considered in order to isolate difficult modes. Analysis of flight data using state space identification methods on sweep/impulse/random data and development of statistical quality indices. Mode tracking using mode shape information from previous flight cases. Development of stability indicators on stick jerk and turbulent responses. The methods that are developed will be implemented on a workstation simulated and real flight test data. The work will follow on from a contract sponsored by British Aerospace which has revealed a number of fundamental improvements that can be made to the whole flutter testing procedure.
