Summary on Grant Application Form |
The programme will investigate the potential for the formation of quantum dot structures in mixed semiconductor systems where there is a mutual insolubility between two different structure types. The systems to be investigated are mixtures of alkaline earth sulphides/selenides and zinc sulphide/selenide. These systems will be prepared as epitaxial thin films using metal-organic chemical vapour deposition (MOCVD) on a variety of substrate types. The microstructure and photoluminescence (electronic structure) of these materials will be investigated as a function of growth conditions and substrate mismatch.
