Summary on Grant Application Form |
The objective of this research is to fully investigate the operation of the Photo-parametric amplifier in respect of its linearity, noise performance and band-width. The project builds an initial explanatory work and will examine both device optimisation (in collaboration with Bradford University) and optimisation of the microwave/RF computing for efficient signal utilisation.Progress:The computer simulation of the photoparametric amplifier in different modes of operation has been carried out successfully and further work is under way to optimise the circuits. A flexible test-bed comprising of a wide-band transmitter and receiver accessories has been designed and built in-house. This assembly is being used to evaluate the photodiodes developed by our collaborating team in Bradford University. Results show that the operation of photoparametric amplifier in up-conversion mode can be achieved by minimal circuit tuning. However, down conversion with gain requires fine tuning of the idler circuits. Computer simulation using nonlinear techniques are being further developed to estimate the Intermodulation distortion generated in a sub-carrier multiplexed systems.
