Summary on Grant Application Form |
Analytical transmission electron microscopy will be exploited to further understanding of the corrosion and degradation of engineering materials so that viable routes for increased corrosion resistance and durability can be exploited. In particular, the research will contribute significantly to understanding of transport processes during the growth of largely amorphous oxides and crystalline scales at ambient and elevated temperatures. The general film behaviour and local properties, including transport paths for growth and degradation will be considered through innovative use of markers and tracers which are amenable to analysis.
