Summary on Grant Application Form |
The primary aim of this project is to measure the contribution of public awareness campaigns when combined with improvements in transport infrastructure management to the success of transport strategy. The research will be linked to a major project in Maidstone, the Maidstone Initiative in Sustainable Transport (MIST), and will (i) develop methods for obtaining information on: public perceptions of transport problems and the need for action; individuals' preferences and stated intentions as to action; changes in perception, and in actions, as a result of the MIST project; physical performance of the transport system, as modified by the project; (ii) analyse results from data collected by MIST on the items in (i) at different stages in the project; (iii) identify those elements of the transport changes and the public awareness campaign which have contributed most to changes in attitude and action; (iv) assess the potential for public awareness campaigns as part of an integrated approach to transport policy using models of Maidstone and of Kent.
