Summary on Grant Application Form |
It is proposed to synthesise several series of compounds with a view to using NMR spectroscopy to determine the position of conformational equilibria over a wide range of temperatures. Series are chosen to reflect the varying importance of attractive van der Waals forces between molecule groups in determining the position of equilibria as substituants are changed. Experimental determinations of equilibris will be compared with molecular mechanics calculations to evaluate and perhaps optimise this aspect of molecular mechanics parametrisation.
