Summary on Grant Application Form
Computer simulation of buildings and their plant is being increasingly used by building services engineers and architects to assess the performance of their designs. There are a number of example years for primarily energy analyses, but not design of the plant. However, some of these years are now rather dated and there are different years, (real and synthetic), established by separate filtering criteria. But there are no established periods for design giving extreme weather conditions and their probabilities of occurrences. This is vital to the design of the building and its services and for energy efficiency and environmental friendliness . The work will review developments in other countries and international bodies, and recommend a method for appraising selection methods for both plant design and energy comparisons. It will provide a contribution to work recently begun in a CIBSE Task Group to revise and extend CIBSE's selection method, and thence to select new weather time-series using up-to-date data if justified.
