Summary on Grant Application Form |
Rotating Stall is one of the most challenging problems in gas turbine/aero-engine development, which very often triggers aerodynamic performance breakdown and/or induces severe blade vibration problems. Non-empirical prediction methods are much needed to enhance understanding of the complex physical mechanisms and to provide design tools. It is proposed to devise an efficient 3-D Computational Fluid Dynamics solver for rotating stall predictions. The proposed solver will be validated against a range of theoretical and experimental results. The influence of external disturbances on the onset and development of rotating stall will be examined to seek guidance towards improved techniques of active control of rotating stall. The proposed work will demonstrate effectiveness and feasibility of a CFD based solver for design and analysis of rotating stall and control of rotating stall at practical flow conditions.
