Summary on Grant Application Form |
Emerging needs in the microwave market can only be satisfied if the industry can adapt to produce low cost, fully integrated microwave components. Recent dramatic developments in high frequency device technology yielding devices with bandwidths in excess of 200 GHz should make possible the realisation of fully integrated microwave filters, on of the key components in a microwave communication system. The purpose of this proposed program is to investigate the application of ultrafast transistors to high frequency microwave filtering requirements with an emphasis on manufacturability, avoiding the need for trimming as much as possible. These requirements will be met using a combination of switched capacitor and active continuous-time circuits. Suitable models of the transistors for signal processing applications will be developed along with advanced CAD software for simulation and design.
