Summary on Grant Application Form
Following discussions at the Anglo-French N+N on Molecular Electronics held in Toulouse on 16the-18the January 1994 and subsequent correspondence it is proposed to visit three of the French participants to establish collaborative research projects. Dr D. Fichou has worked on the synthesis of oligothiophenes for electronic and optoelectronic devices. He will shortly be moving from Paris to Montpellier and has expressed an interest in establishing new collaboration to study materials prepared in his new laboratory. Professor Collet, Lyon, is synthesising asymmetrically substituted polyenes which complement longer chain materials currently being studied in Durham. He is interested in recommencing work on polydiacetylenes of interest for use in non-linear optical devices.Professor D. Astruc, Bordeaux, has an established expertise in the synthesis of metal organic compounds and dendritic polymers. He is interested in a collaboration exploring the relevance of these materials to molecular electronics. A visit will enable these initial contacts to be developed and detailed projects to be defined leading to funding applications from both EPSRC and EU sources.
