Given a well defined system specification based on user requirements, this project focuses on the development and exploitation of existing machine vision techniques by first creating an integrated real-time personal and exploitation system with on-line video input under commercial operational conditions and second, testing the system with the aim of identifying and quantifying crucial system parameters for acceptable performance through end-user evaluation programmes. Overall, this project aims to develop a real-time identification system in which all the relevant software engineering features and networking interfacing are a modularly expandable integral package. The consortium concerned in the proposed research includes academic partners with expertise in Computer Vision and Parallel Computing, a manufacturer of high performance imaging equipment, a supplier of security systems, a security system consultant / installer and End-Users.
