Summary on Grant Application Form |
The ultimate aim is to provide the offshore design industry with the most authoritative guidance on the selection of Morison coefficients for estimation of the wave induced loading on space frame structures when conducting analysis by non-deterministic methods. The objectives can be achieved by the drawing together of results from the full complement of large scale random wave load experiments sponsored in the UK over the past 2 decades. The research group at the University of Liverpool has had a responsibility for all advanced non-deterministic analyses of wave load data from these studies. Analysis of the most recent experiment (EC-LIP) remains outstanding and its completion forms the principal part of the proposed work programme. This data, covering the influence of currents and cylinder roughness, together with that from the Joint-Industry Christchurch Bay Compliant Cylinder and covering the influence on cylinder dynamics will make possible the assembly of unified guidance.
