Summary on Grant Application Form
The aim of this research proposal is to develop assessment tools for the life prediction of uncoated single-crystal superalloy component operating under combined creep/fatigue loading conditions. The work will focus on CMSX-4, a top performance high volume fraction nickel-based superalloy. An integrated Micro-Meso-Macro constitutive framework will be developed which will enable the morphology of the precipitates at the Microscale and the presence of casting defects at the Mesoscale to be accounted for at the macroscopic level. the outcome of this research is expected to provide and understanding of the role played by defects and modelling tools will be developed to optimise hot section component design.
