Summary on Grant Application Form |
The Cranfield component of this collaborative study with the University of Ulster will focus on the application of field modelling to the simulation of selected room fire configurations. The spacially-resolved CFD predictions of wall temperature and heat flux will be used to establish datailed thermal boundary conditions for the performance evaluation of glazing systems. The computational representation of such boundary conditions will be evaluated in comparisons with measurements in the test furnace at the University of Ulster. The computations will be performed with a CFD code specifically developed for room fire simulation, which includes options for fire source description based on eddy dissipation and laminar flamelet models together with a discrete transfer (ray tracing) radiation model and conjugate wall heat transfer.
