Summary on Grant Application Form |
The Transport Parallel Computing Centre (TPCC) in the Centre for Transport Studies at UCL was established in 1990 under SERC Grants GR/F90294 and 93883 to provide a SUN-hosted array of 36 transputers and system software for use by transport researchers within and outside academe. Since the expiry of the initial funding at the end of February 1993, the TPCC has operated under a periodically updated business plan under which the Principal Investigator has taken primary responsibility for keeping a part time System Manager in post and SERC accepted primary responsibility for funding maintenance. This arrangement was reviewed (along with those for other similar facilities) in 1994, and the Principal Investigator has been given to understand that EPSRC's policy is that future maintenance should be funded from projects. However, work depending on the TPCC, but funded under the assumption that its maintenance cost would be met from elsewhere, will continue beyond the end of the existing mainenance contract. The cost of a further year's maintenance from March 1996 is applied for to provide cover while this work is completed and further projects with funding to cover subsequent maintenance are secured.
