Summary on Grant Application Form |
We have recently shown [1] both theoretically and experimentally that it is feasible to investigate the development of a solid state semiconductor pump-probe laser. This has direct applicability to the commercialisation of simple pump probe systems for use in a wide range of scientific instruments. In particular it could make available compact electro-optic sampling systems for ultrafast analysis of high speed photodetectors and MMIC circuits. In this project we aim to develop a prototype device and fully analyse its performance both theoretically and experimentally. This will involve a detailed analysis of the jitter and chirp and the ability to pulse compress the output from the laser.
