Summary on Grant Application Form |
The CFD prediction of both internal temperature and liner heat transfer in gas turbine combustors is presently limited by deficiencies in the modelling of sooting processes and of radiative exchange . A satisfactory database does not exist for the development of appropriate kinetic mechanisms which embrace practically relevant fuels and operating conditions. Detailed measurements of soot related properties will be made in laminar diffusion flames burning prevaporised kerosine/surrogate fuels at pressures up to 10 bar. Freestream compositions will be tailored to provide flames which make experimentally accessible both fuel pyrolysis and soot oxidation zones and thereby provide the discriminating data necessary for the evaluator of both simplified fuel specifications and the reaction mechanisms necessary for their detailed numerical simulation.
