Summary on Grant Application Form
Automated flowsheet synthesis is a potentially valuable tool in the early stages in the design of chemical plants. New methods for handling non-economic criteria for the synthesis of optimal processes are to be developed. Automatically designing processes which are flexible, controllable, and which meet safety and environmental constraints is necessary as the economic climate continues to become more competitive and as regulations become more complex. It is also important to develop processes which can easily and quickly be adapted to changing circumstances. The support requested in this proposal will enable me to interact with researchers in the field of control engineering and with potential industrial users of any software developed. Discussions with industry will help to ensure relevance.
