Summary on Grant Application Form |
This proposal aims to investigate the potential of a new hybrid display device which offers advantages in performance, cast and fabrication over existing systems. The new device is based on nematic liquid crystals and includes thin film oxide ferroelectrics with the aim of imparting the desirable properties of bistability and enhanced speed on the device. The development takes advantage of two areas of UK expertise, combining thin film ferroelectric substrates with liquid crystal technology. The novel device architecture has desirable properties for the displays industry while understanding the complex physical interactions of the components provides an excellent academic challenge.
