The Kaminsky and Schrock catalyst systems Cp2ZrX2/MAO and [{(CF3)2MeCO}2MoCHBu+(NR)] have attracted enormous industrial interest and broad patent cover is in place. The current proposal outlines feasible methods for the synthesis of high oxidation state imidometallasiloxanes and cationic imidometal complexes. On the basis of rational comparisons between imido and cyclopentadienyl ligands and alkoxy and siloxy ligands a new generation of Kaminsky and Schrock type catalysts may be expected from this work.
