Summary on Grant Application Form |
Fatigue and stress corrosion cracking are very dependent on the quality of the surface layer. In particular the magnitude of the residual stress and the integrity and thickness of the treated surface layer are key factors in the continued resistance to fatigue of SCC. The proposed study will examine the response of surface layer, in terms of ac magnetic properties, during surface degradation tests, such as fatigue, in order to show the feasibility of producing surface quality monitors based on this principle.
