Summary on Grant Application Form |
The study will examine changes in air pollution and exposure associated with integrated traffic managemebt scheme in the northerm acess corridor of Northampton. A GIS will be built of the experimental area (including possible displacemant areas) and a matched control area, and a programme of monitoring carried out for PM!)/2.5, CO and NO2. Traffic and dispersion models will be used to model traffic flows/composition and pollution patterbs before and after introduction of the scheme, and results validated against the monitored data. Activity survays will be carried out for several popuation subgroup, including preschool children, school children, College students,house-persons, commuters and street workers, as a basis for assessing the levels of exposure beofr and after the scheme. These will be validated by simulation of activity patterms by students equipped with personal monitors. Statistical analysis will be conducted of changes in both spatial and temporal patterns of pollution associated with the scheme, referenced against changes in the control area. Based on the results, a series of scenarios will be developed to assess the long term impacts of the scheme and potential of such interventions to achieve pollution reduction and exposure limitation targets.
