Summary on Grant Application Form |
Plasmas are widely regarded as a clean technology since they produce relatively small amounts of waste. Non-isothermal plasma chemistry offers a number of advantages over conventional surface modification techniques. As yet there has been virtually no research carried out into the plasma treatment of powders within the UK academic community. This research programme seeks to demonstrate the applicability of plasma processig to polymer powder technologies and the preparation of catalytic materials. Funding is requested for a small scale tumbling plasma powder treater, and a quadrupole mass spectrometer for process monitoring. Existing XPS, AFM, and BET facilities in the applicants laboratry will be used for characterisation of the treated powder matreials.
