Summary on Grant Application Form
The selection of the most appropriate procurement system is fundamental to a successful project, yet there is little evidence of cost differences being taken into account in the selection process. By investigating and analysing the comparative costs of using different procurement systems, a predictive computer based cost model will be developed. In the feasibility study, which is the subject of this application, data provided by three leading quantity surveying/project management consultancies will be evaluated and the variables to be built into the model identified. The most suitable model type will also be identified. Preliminary model testing will highlight any further data required. Upon successful completion of the feasibility study, a comprehensive data base will then be developed, the data will be analysed and a predictive computer based procurement cost model will be produced. The output from the model will be in a format suitable for immediate use. This will enable project managers and quantity surveyors to give the clients of the UK construction industry quantified, cost based advice on the selection of a procurement system. Such a facility is not currently available.
