Summary on Grant Application Form
The project work will focus on the experimental demonstration of improved phase conjugate response of laser diode structures using: (i) Cavity enhancement in structures with asymmetric facet mirror reflectivities. (ii) Two-section asymmetric gain-levered QW laser structures (iii) Tapered waveguide structures. Two principal applications of the proposed structures are foreseen. In transmission mode the phase conjugators can be used to perform spectral inversion for reducing co0channel interference in multi-channel optical communications systems. In reflection mode the structures can be used to meet a variety of scientific and technological demands for low-cost spectrally pure semiconductor lasers.
