Summary on Grant Application Form
In the recent past, a major focus of our work has centred on the development of multimedia systems, running over IP multicast across data networks. We believe that a similar approach to the provision of mobile multimedia systems is feasible, scaleable, and increasingly important, given the explosion of interest in mobile systems. In this project, we propose to research the problems involved in realising such a system. Naturally, we expect to make extensive use of our existing expertise by pulling into the project a number of relevant themes from other projects. Our major objective is to provide a multimedia system capable of limited deployment in a mobile environment. Because of equipment limitations, the first version will be capable only of limited geographical deployment; later versions, when there is a better underlying communications infrastructure for modular environments, will be capable of greater scalability.
