Summary on Grant Application Form
It is becoming common for new urban traffic management and control systems to be developed and tested using computer simulations of road networks. Often these new systems gain their advantages by adapting to changes in traffic flows which they measure in real time. The computer simulations should therefore also use realistic variations in traffic flows. This research will collect data on flow variations, categorise it and investigate the extent to which changes in the amount of variability affects the prediction of benefits that the computer simulations indicate.
