Summary on Grant Application Form
An improved chemistry for and understanding of the preparation of nanodispersed materials ME (M=Cd or Zn, E=S or Se) from both established and novel single molecule precursors and conventional mixed precursor systems will be developed. Quantum dots will be assessed in terms of structure and optical and electrical properties. Novel nanocomposites will be developed: methods for their preparation and processing into thin films will be developed. The doping of quantum dots eg with manganese and the preparation of ternary dots will be studied. The relevance to beneficiaries is the potential of these materials for use in electroluminescent and non-linear optic devices.
