Summary on Grant Application Form |
The design and selection of pipe lines - either rigid or flexible - is critical to production from the new generation of North Sea oil fields characterised by reservoir fluids at high temperature and pressure. This proposal is aimed at extending structural analysis methods for the prediction of structural strength and buckling of flexible pipes at higher temperatures and pressures. The analysis will include the effect of change of polymer material properties with temperature and the consequential behaviour of the line under high internal pressure. It will predict structural strength, stiffness, burst pressure and the lines behaviour in pressure and temperature - induced buckling when laid. The collaborating companies will be Amerada Hess (UK) Ltd and Bluewater Engineering who will contribute valuable pipe specimens and some staff for the project.
