Summary on Grant Application Form |
The colours and textures recorded in an image are confounded by, and vary with, the imaging conditions. It follows then that naive colour and texture based comparisons cannot be used for image or sub image comparisons (e.g. for finding the same pattern in two different images). In the proposed research we aim to derive a large set of colour and texture based features which are invariant to the imaging conditions. From this invariant feature set we will choose the subset that is the most selective; features are said to be selective if they can be used to characterise and discriminate between images or sub-images. Locally selective features will be structured to form a globally selective representation. It is crucial that the derived colour and texture representation can be matched, and partially matched, quickly. The AURA network, a computational framework which solves search and partial search problems, will be tailored to the problem of colour-texture matching in this project. The utility of Colour and Texture Selective Indexing (or CATS-I for short) will be evaluated relative to a variety selection-based applications (e.g. object location, object recognition and image indexing).
