Summary on Grant Application Form |
A major factor determining the take-up of photovoltaic cladding options is the cost, which is currently substantially higher than for most conventional cladding options. Due to the nature of photovoltaic cladding, different procedures to those of normal practice must be adopted, usually involving the participation of a range of contractors, and careful co-ordination of activities associated with the cladding process, and investigation is proposed which will identify methods of optimising the management and execution of photovoltaic cladding procedures and thus reducing costs. The research will involve careful assessment of existing and potential methods of working, including 'fast-track' procedures. The output of the research should improve the efficiency of the cladding process and will be geared to the needs of the industry. The project will be jointly carried out by the School of Architectural Studies at the University of Sheffield and the Newcastle Photovoltaics Application Centre at the University of Northumbria. Ove Arup and Partners, British Steel plc and the centre for Window and Cladding Technology will also be involved in the project.
