Summary on Grant Application Form |
Several brain pathologies are associated with abnormal cortical folding. Intrinsic curvature calculated from segmented MRI brain surfaces may be more sensitive to abnormalities than existing measures. We will build a computational model of the brain surface, from which we can calculate intrinsic curvature properties (eg compactness) and test the model on patients with schizophrenoia and epilepsy. We will generate rendered brain images colour coded with curvature properties, and test for significant differences in intrinsic curvature within and between groups. We will warp the images into a common coordinate frame, and compare how the choice of landmarks influences curvature variability.
