Summary on Grant Application Form |
This phase of the work will therefore take the 'research tool' developed under GR/K 39295 to the 'operational facility' stage through application of the GIS tools., further data acquisition, additional model integration, close collaboration with other sustainable cities researchers (particularly the Cardiff team of Prof. Phil Jones) and operational testing within the end-user community. The principal deliverable will be the operational QCDSS tested within the collaborating agencies for clearly defined environmental sectors. Collaborative working arrangements with the research team in Cardiff have been agreed.. Specifically, we have planned and costed a complementary work programme involving data, model and staff interchange to effect the import of the Cardiff (EEP) model to the Leeds QCDSS to be parameterised for the city of Leeds. In addition, the funding requested would facilitate the development and application of additional sectoral models to the Leeds region. Candidate areas include:- modeling energy and materials flows in SMEs, the Leeds group are experienced in this aspect of the printing industry (EPSRC Studentship);- modelling land use response to transport policy changes (GR K/64181);- modeling sustainable water management and water demand assessment (GR/K 93433);- modelling 'health gain' attributable to waste water treatment. (GR K/64150).
