Summary on Grant Application Form
This project will study the use of a multi dimensional approach to capillary electrophoresis using ITP in two dimensions and any CE mode in the third dimension to facilitate increased sample loading and hence the analysis of low level and trace components. The use of the method for removing matrix effects and unwanted materials followed by final analysis using a volume coupling approach will be investigated. This technique will provide longer zone lengths and hence provide greater quantitative accuracy. The use of rectangular capillaries in all three dimensions will be investigated for their enhanced sample loading, detection sensibility and resolution. A linear series of spacers (both UV and non-UV absorbing) will be produced to assist in zone boundary discrimination. The development of a contactless conductivity detector will facilitate monitoring the zone boundaries at any point on the separation capillary.
