Summary on Grant Application Form
We propose to study a hybrid metallic mesoscopic structures, comprising elements of metals with essentially different electron and magnetic properties. New phenomena raising many intriguing problems arise in such structures as a result of coherence and correlation of electrons from different regions. At this stage we propose to study experimentally the phenomena resulting from the phase transfer from the superconducting condensate to normal quasiparticles during Andreev reflections in hybrid/normal superconducting mesoscopic systems. The issues to be addressed include reentrant behaviour of the proximity induced conductance at low enough temperatures and voltage bias, the influence of spin-polarised electrons on the phase-sensitive transport in superconductors with unconventional pairing, dissipative Josephson effects in non-equilibrium mesoscopic structures, phase coherent transport in the vicinity of metal-insulator transition in semi-metallic alloys and ballistic mesosopic metallic cavities with superconducting boundaries.
