Summary on Grant Application Form
The selection of the most appropriate procurement system is fundamental to a sucessful project, yet there is little evidence of the cost differences being taken into account in the selection process. By investigating and analysing the comparitive costs of using different procurements systems, a predictive computer based model will be developed. In the feasibilty study the main variable were identified and neural network established as the most suitable modelling tehcnique. The second stage of this research will involve compiling a compregensive database. The data will be analysed and a predicitive computer based procurement cost model will be produced. The ouptut fromthe model will be in a format suitable for immediate use. This will anable project managers and quality surveyors to give clients of the UK construction industry quanifies, cost based advice on the selection of a procurement system, and the other strategic project choices. Such a facility is not currently available. After completeion of this research, subsequent expansion of the cost database, possiibly in collaboration with RICS/BICS will update and expanf the cost model and its range of application.
