Summary on Grant Application Form |
The aim of the project is to develop a new tooth-coloured universal filing material for use in all regions of the mouth. The novel material, and aesthetic, repairable, adhesive restorative will dimensionally stable with mechanical properties comparable to tooth tissue. It will also release ions to prevent further decay. The novel material is based on resin-modified glass-ionomer cement technology, but with a tow-fold novel research approach, a novel monomer system (covered by a provision patent filing) and a novel filler for which a provision patent is under preparationAt the request of the MedLINK Program Management Committee, research into this novel system will be carried out using factorial Experimental Design. This experimental design will facilitate the formulation of suitable commercial materials, but will also give a good insight into the underlying scientific principles controlling the behaviour of the complex cement.
