Summary on Grant Application Form |
There are five main elements to the proposed programme:1. Element Laboratory Experiments. Element testing will be performed on the polymeric replacement rings (provided by Danelaw LTD) to examine their performance under static and dynamic loading. Element test will also be performed on the different fill material used to surround the rings.2. Full-scale Laboratory Testing. Full-scale tests will be performed in the laboratory to assess the performance of both new installations and reconstruction using recycled polymer chambers. Various structural features of the system will be investigated 3. Field Experiments. The response of road ironwork installations will be studies on full-scale structures in using a purpose built installation Stanton plc.4. Analytical Modelling. Various modelling techniques will be investigated ranging from simplified models to a Finite Element model of the road ironwork system. A comprehensive model of the system will be developed and validated.Design/Installation Guide. The final task will be to bring all the aspects of the project together into a design/installation guide for road ironwork and recycled polymer chamber systems.
