Summary on Grant Application Form |
ETNA aims to assist developers of networked multimedia applications to identify required levels of audio and video quality. The network research community is establishing a Quality of Service (QoS) requirements at the network level. There is no straightforward link between those technical QoS parameters, and the quality of audio and video as perceived by end users. Users' perception of audio and video quality in networked applications task dependant. Designers of multimedia applications and providers of network services lack guidelines for required audio and video quality for specific users and tasks. Our aim is to develop taxonomy of tasks for networked multimedia applications, and to identify minimum and maximum audio and video quality thresholds for those tasks. The taxonomy, and accompanying guidelines, will allow designers and service providers to identify appropriate levels of audio and video quality, and provide further guidance on factors which are likely to impact user perception and effectiveness of applications and services. We will also compile a catalogue of methods for assessing audio and video.
