Summary on Grant Application Form |
The new spectrometer with the Stingray imaging system will support multidisciplinary research in the University of Manchester's Department of Chemistry, School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Department of Earth Sciences and Physics, the Manchester Dental School, the Section of Dermatology, the Department of Materials Science (joint with UMIST), the Manchester Museum, and UMIST's Department of Paper Science.Programmes which will benefit include those concerned with organometallic chemistry, optoelectronic and non-linear optical devices, microwave dielectrics, actinides in geochemistry and the environment, this film processing, clean coatings methodology based on aqueous polymers, paper production and coatings technology, surface corrosion inhibitors for metals and alloys, identification of minerals and inclusions, provenancing and preservation, control of diesel exhaust emissions, new materials for repair of dental cavities, polymeric drug delivery systems, and aspects of dermatology. The research is relevant to the Foresight priorities 'Better Materials, Synthesis and Processing' and 'A Cleaner and Sustainable World'.
