Summary on Grant Application Form
The project proposes to carry out an initial literature review to update the consortium on the currently available publications relating to the use of enzymes in de-inking.. This will be followed by an intensive laboratory study in an upgraded facility which will allow enzyme formulations and mechanisms to be studied. This work will also eliminate the need for an initial round of pilot plant studies. The data generated at laboratory scale will be verified and optimised using a proposed pilot scale facility. This will serve to bring the technology closer to commercial scale and to demonstrate to the industrial partners the viability of the technologyFinally, extensive commercial scale trials will be conducted at mills operated by membersof the consortium. These will focus on specific areas of enzyme activity, although it is hoped that the consortium will be able to produce some marketable pulp towards the end of the project...
